As it is my first term with this class, I made sure to take the first few weeks to launch DAILY 5 with its standards of expectation for independent work. This class has many good readers and a huge core of students that are reading 1-2 years above their chronological age, however, they have very poor focus and stamina. Despite their age and reading ability, many of the students were distracted and off task from reading after only 5 minutes. Here you see students practising Read to Self in their own bubble space. Over the term I want to extend their stamina so that my most distracted can stay on task for at least 20 minutes. |
